Kampala traders want foreigners kicked out of petty trade
The Kampala City Traders Association has once again resurrected their concerns on the need for government to regulate the trading environment as earlier proposed in order to ring-fence common trade for Ugandans.
The KACITA Annual General Meeting today, appeared to direct their concern at largely Asian shop operators who are increasing their presence in downtown, suburb and peri-urban areas of the country where they are running petty trade.
Evaristo Kayondo, the Chairman of KACITA defends the renewed demand by the traders, reasoning that continued exposure to the Asian manufacturers is eroding the growth and profitability of indigenous traders.
